Subject: Transfer of funds-Fire Marshall Code Compliance

The Borough's Public Works and Maintenance Departments has been notified by the City of Kenai's Fire Department that four schools located within Kenai city limits may require upgrades to their fire alarm systems in order to bring them in compliance with ADA and other fire code requirements.

The FY01 assembly approved budget for this purpose of $30,000 has already been obligated toward other ongoing fire code compliance issues. Public Works has estimated that $20,000 will be needed for planning and designing a new fire alarm system for Kenai Central High School with estimated cost of installing of a new alarm system to be in the range of $350,000 to $400,000.

The Maintenance Department has identified $20,000 in available funds from the following completed projects: Kenai High School Roof Repair project #98781, $324.09; Kenai High School Roof Repair project #96791, $7,517.88; and Kenai Voc-ed Building Cross-Walk project #00737, $8,013.63; and, Mt. View Walkway Safety Awning project #99739, $4,144.40.

The attached resolution would authorize the transfer of funds from these completed projects to the Fire Code Compliance project and enable an RFP for planning and design of a new alarm system for Kenai Central High School.
