SUBJECT: Establishing a Military Leave Policy - Resolution 00-085

The borough currently does not have a policy regarding temporary leaves of absence for employees in the military reserves or national guard. This resolution would allow those employees called to annual training up to 16 calendar days per year of military leave without loss of pay.

A survey of borough cities shows that all have a policy ranging from allowed leave without pay to up to 30 days of paid leave. All require the forfeiture of any pay received for military duty (similar to forfeiture of jury duty pay while on court leave).

The sixteen (16) day provision would allow for travel time and the normal two weeks of actual training. Any additional time would be allowed as annual leave or leave without pay at the employee's discretion.
