FROM: Cathy Mayer, Solid Waste Director

DATE: September 8, 2000

SUBJECT: RESOLUTION 2000-082; AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE OF THE CENTRAL PENINSULA BALING/LANDFILL FACILITY

The Finance Department solicited and received proposals for the above-referenced project on September 8, 2000. The invitations to submit proposals were advertised in the Peninsula Clarion, the Homer News and the Seward Phoenix Log. Three proposals were received and the proposal submitted by Alaska Landfills, Inc. scored highest.

The project consists of operating and maintaining the Central Peninsula Baling/Landfill Facility as called out in the Borough's operations and maintenance requirements workplan. Proposers were evaluated on qualifications and experience, proposed work means and methods (equipment, personnel, facility maintenance, etc.), and cost. Ensuring proper operations and maintenance for this multi-year contract is important to protect Borough facilities and equipment worth several million dollars.

The funding for this project is from the Solid Waste administration budget and all expenditures will be charged to account number 290.32122.43011.

The attached Resolution requests award of contract to Alaska Landfills, Inc. for the proposed, estimated amount of $977,494.00.
