TO: William Popp, Assembly President

Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly Members

THRU: Dale Bagley, Mayor

THRU: Jeff Sinz, Director of Finance

FROM: Walter Robson, PW/MPD Manager

DATE: June 30, 2000

SUBJECT: Resolution 2000-058, Award of Construction Services for Kenai Health Building

RE: This memo represents a notification and request for lay-down of final resolution, sample attached

The Finance Department solicited and opened bids for this capital project on July 12, 2000. The invitation to bid was advertised in the Peninsula Clarion (June 11, 12, 15, 22, 29, 2000), Homer News (June 15, 22, 2000), Seward Phoenix Log (June 15, 22, 2000), and Anchorage Daily News (June 9, 12, 19, 23, 26, 2000).

The bid documents request bids to be submitted for the Base Bid, and six Deductive Alternates. Each consists of providing all labor, equipment, tools, and materials required for the construction of the Kenai Health Building. The building is to be located on Barnacle Way in Kenai, Alaska and is to encompass 11,829 square feet, total gross area. The building has been described in available plans and specifications. The extent of this work is estimated at approximately $2.0 million.

NOTE: Alt. 1 deduct: roof top air handler and all controls. Alt. 2 deduct: certain plumbing fixtures. Alt. 3 deduct: certain casework. Alt. 4 deduct: certain floor finishes and wall tile. Alt. 5 deduct: paving.

The funding for this project is from the Capital Improvement Projects budget, including a State Grant. All expenditures for this project will be charged to account number 600.81111.99PHC.

The attached Resolution requests Award of Contract for this work to ________________________ for the Base Bid of $_________________.

It is the request of this office that the KPB Assembly consider the final resolution (sample attached) at the Assembly meeting of July 18, 2000. Since this project was bidding during the July 4 holiday week, and an Addendum was issued to all plan holders only June 30, 2000, via U. S. Postal Services, additional time for all bidders was deemed to be appropriate. The plan holders have been allowed an additional six (6) days to prepare their bids. If a lay-down is approved by the KPB Assembly, no impact to the project schedule will occur.
