Memorandum
To: William Popp, Assembly President
Members, Kenai Peninsula Borough
Thru: Dale Bagley, Mayor
From: Jeffrey Sinz, Finance Director
Date: February 17, 2000
Subject: Authorizing the Mayor to Accept Grants for $5,000 that do not require a Supplemental Appropriation
The Kenai Peninsula Borough is occasionally awarded grants from State and Federal Agencies in amounts of $5,000 or less. These grants are sometimes intended to reimburse the Borough for expenditures related to a grant program, but do not require an additional appropriation. Our normal process for accepting a grant, regardless of the amount, is to take an ordinance to the assembly requesting acceptance of the grant and appropriation and appropriation of the funds. This is a time consuming and costly process. Giving the mayor authority to accept grants of $5,000 or less that do not require an appropriation would help simplify the process and save unnecessary processing costs.
The assembly would be informed of any such grants through the Mayor's regular report to the assembly.
