SUBJECT: Maintenance of Borough Assembly Chambers - Resolution No. 2000-009

It has been several years since any major maintenance has been performed on the Borough Assembly Chambers, and the room is long overdue for new paint, carpet and window treatments. At the request of President Popp, I have been working with Maintenance Director Don McCloud to determine the cost of several cosmetic changes that will enhance the appearance of Chambers and give this room the professional atmosphere the seat of our local government warrants. The costs are outlined below:

Painting & General Maintenance (To be performed in-house) $3,500

(Includes some repairs to walls, moving framed flag to lobby area outside of Chambers and other minor maintenance tasks)

New Carpet (Bid Price) 6,895

Pleated Window Shades (Bid Price) 1,480

New Folding Tables (Estimate for four to six 6-foot tables) 330

Cart for Folding Tables 200

Track Lighting in Front of Assembly Dais 1500

Assembly Chairs (19 chairs @ $450/each) $8,550

All of these projects can be accomplished with existing funds in the Assembly budget. These funds include $21,418 in the Communications Equipment Account. This money was budgeted to replace the existing recording equipment with a CD-based system, but we have been unable to find one that will meet our needs. In addition, a total of $1,027 remains in the account set aside for lighting and other projects which were completed last year.

If this project is approved, I have been assured by Mr. McCloud that the Maintenance Department will make this work a priority and will schedule it between Assembly meetings in order to minimize any negative effect on the Assembly or public attending Assembly meetings.
