Subject: Mayor's Substitute - Ordinance 2000-19-28, Appropriating Funds for the Kenai Central High School Fire Alarm System
Ordinance 2000-19-28 requests an appropriation of $450,000 for a new Fire Alarm System at the Kenai Central High School. The amount requested was based on an engineer's estimate provided in conjunction with a preliminary design process. Bids were solicited and opened on May 30, 2001. Although project plans were picked up by eleven potential bidders, only two bids were received. The low bid with adjustments came in at $466,900. With project management fees and project contingencies added, KPB Public Works estimates that $545,900 will be needed to complete the project. The proposed Mayor's Substitute increases the amount of the appropriation from $450,000 to $545,900 and authorizes the mayor to award the contract to the low bidder, Udelhoven Oil Field Services. Authorization to award the contract is necessary at this time to allow the project to be completed prior to the start of the next school year.
