MEMORANDUM

TO: William Popp, Assembly President

Members, Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly

FROM: Drew Scalzi, Assembly Member

DATE: August 31, 2000

SUBJECT: Ordinance increasing monthly allowance for assembly members

The monthly compensation for assembly members was set in January 1979. It has not been adjusted for inflation, and, in order to continue to attract good candidates for the assembly, I believe an increase is justified. If enacted, this ordinance would increase the monthly allowance from $200 to $400 for assembly members, and the president's monthly allowance would increase from $300 to $500. This is in addition to the $100 per session received for serving on the board of adjustment or board of equalization, the auto allowance, expense reimbursements, and the health and life insurance benefits currently received.
