BCVFD Receives $58,277 FEMA Grant
March
24, 2004
Last year the U.S. Department of Homeland Security
teamed up with the U.S. Fire Administration to offer the Assistance
to Firefighters Grant Program.
Designed to assist local fire departments in protecting
citizens and firefighters against the effects of fire and fire-related
incidents, the program made more than $billion available to career
and volunteer fire departments nationwide.
Under the 2003 program, departments were eligible
to apply for funding in one of four categories: Operations and
Firefighter Safety, Fire Prevention, Firefighting Vehicle Acquisition,
and EMS Training.
BCVFD was successful in its request for firefighter
safety equipment in the amount of $58,277. The funding will go
toward the much-needed replacement of 20 obsolete airpacks and
will provide volunteers with state-certified Firefighter I training.
This is Bear Creek's second time receiving FEMA
funding through this program, having received funding for a firefighter
fitness and wellness program in 2001.
