SUBJECT: Resolution accepting equipment from the Southern Region Emergency Medical Services Council on behalf of Bear Creek Fire Service Area
The Borough's Office of Emergency Management has developed a comprehensive plan for upgrading its communications throughout the Peninsula. The plan was developed with the cooperation of Borough municipalities, service areas, volunteer fire departments, law enforcement agencies, and hospitals on the Kenai Peninsula. The need for a borough-wide Interoperable Communications System was identified as its number one priority.
Southern Region Emergency Medical Services Council, Inc., ("Southern Region") is a nonprofit corporation that serves as a resource center for emergency medical service systems. Bear Creek Fire Service Area ("BCFSA") submitted an application to Southern Region for communications equipment and rescue equipment. The communications equipment requested by BCFSA in its application is an integral part of the Borough's overall communications plan. Notice was received from Southern Region that BCFSA's application has been approved. (See attached copy of notice.) Southern Region will purchase the equipment and then provide it to BCFSA. A 10 percent match from BCFSA is required before the equipment can be purchased. Funds are available in the service area's FY05 approved budget to meet the match requirement. On December 14, 2004, the BCFSA Board approved receipt of the grant and expenditure of the matching funds. (See attached copy of Board minutes.)
