MEMORANDUM

TO: Pete Sprague, Assembly President

Members, Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly

FROM: Grace Merkes, Assembly Member

DATE: September 30, 2004

SUBJECT: Resolution 2004-_____, supporting use of the Sterling Community Plan as a tool in the borough's comprehensive plan process

This resolution would support use of the Sterling Community Plan as a tool in the development and implementation of the borough's comprehensive plan.  The Sterling Community Plan was recently completed with the assistance of grant money through the Economic Development District.  A number of other community plans are being completed as well.  One of the goals of the current comprehensive plan is to assist communities in their planning efforts for services and facilities.  The borough's comprehensive plan is in the process of being updated and the review of these community plans would be very timely, as they may provide valuable insight into the communities' concerns and visions, which may in turn be incorporated into the borough's comprehensive plan to the extent consistent with the borough's own laws, policies, and goals. The Planning Commission is scheduled to discuss this resolution at its October 11, 2004 meeting. Its recommendation will be given to the assembly by October 12, 2004.
