SUBJECT: Resolution 2004-024: A resolution supporting the concept of a statewide broad based visitor industry self-assessment for tourism marketing that includes funding for marketing the Kenai Peninsula

The concept of a statewide broad based visitor industry self-assessment is currently being discussed by the legislature. While SB 254 and other legislation address the issue in various forms, this resolution supports the concept as long as several key points are included. These include:

Recognizing the Kenai Peninsula as a separate marketing region within the statewide marketing efforts

Guaranteeing a percentage of funds generated would be available for regional marketing efforts, such as those of the Kenai Peninsula Tourism Marketing Council (KPTMC), based on the amount contributed from each region

A 5-year sunset provision to allow those contributing to the assessment to evaluate the program's effectiveness
