SUBJECT: Resolution 2003-006: Accepting $38,500 from the Alaska Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, Division of Emergency Services, for Emergency Management Operations

The Alaska Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, Division of Emergency Services (ADES), offers grants under its Emergency Management Performance Grant program. The Borough's Office of Emergency Management (OEM) applied for, and received, funding under this program for federal fiscal year 2003. The grant requires a local match on a one-to-one basis. The amount of the grant is $38,500; therefore a local match of $38,500 in non-federal funds is needed. OEM anticipated receipt of this grant and, therefore, included it as part of the budget for fiscal year 2003. Both the grant revenues and matching funds were appropriated upon assembly approval of the budget.

Funds may be used for activities listed under OEM's strategic plan. Generally, this covers their operations for the current year. The term of the grant continues until September 30, 2003; however, OEM expects to have the grant funds expended prior to June 30, 2003.
