MEMORANDUM

TO: Timothy Navarre, Assembly President

Members, Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly

FROM: Dale Bagley, Mayor

DATE: September 26, 2002

SUBJECT: Resolution 2002-123, expressing support for the Iliamna-Nondalton Road Project

This resolution is introduced at the request of the Lake & Peninsula Borough. The attached letter dated September 25, 2002, from the Community Development Coordinator of the Lake & Peninsula Borough describes the background for this resolution. Briefly, the resolution is requested in order to demonstrate general community support for the STIP process followed by the Department of Transportation and also support for construction for the Iliamna-Nondalton Road and Bridge project. This project has been on the STIP list for several years and was recently challenged in court by the Alaska State Council for Trout Unlimited, Robert B. Gilliam. The Kenai Peninsula Borough is not involved in that lawsuit but, according to the Lake & Peninsula Borough, the decision of the court could possibly affect all future road projects within the state, especially those within rural Alaska.
