SUBJECT: Resolution 2002-028

During the February 5, 2002, assembly meeting, Sherman C. "Red" Smith suggested that the borough provide a printed copy of both the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Alaska to newly elected borough officials. We agree with Mr. Smith that this will help newly elected officials by giving them the proper tools with which to uphold their oaths.

This resolution is in response to Mr. Smith's suggestion. It formalizes a requirement that every newly elected assembly member receive a written copy of both constitutions.

Additionally, the administration plans to make printed copies of both constitutions available to other newly elected officials, and to students and other members of the public who visit the borough. The borough print shop is printing copies bearing the borough logo for this purpose. They will also be available on the borough Web page.
