MEMORANDUM

TO: Timothy Navarre, Assembly President

Members, Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly

THRU: Dale Bagley, Mayor

FROM: Colette Thompson, Borough Attorney

Ed Oberts, Assistant to the Mayor

Bob Bright, Planning Director

DATE: January 10, 2002

SUBJECT: Resolution 2002-010, authorizing the rental of office space in Seward for a branch borough office

This resolution would authorize the administration to rent office space from the City of Seward for $600 per month on a month-to-month basis. The borough currently rents office space in Homer and has found an increasing demand for similar space in the Seward area. The office will not be staffed initially but will be available for meetings and conferences as well as storage and occasional office usage by borough employees. Monthly rental includes all utilities other than telephone expenses, and the city has agreed to provide snow removal services and access to the Seward computer network. Locating this office in city hall would be convenient for the public, borough employees, and the City of Seward. Funds for this rental were appropriated in the fiscal year 2002 budget, and KPB 17.10.040 requires the assembly to approve by resolution, upon receipt of a planning commission recommendation, the acquisition of an interest in land. This rental agreement constitutes an interest in land and is therefore presented for assembly approval. The planning commission will consider this at its January 14, 2002 meeting.
