DATE: February 8, 2001

SUBJECT: Resolution 2001-016; authorizing the award of a contract to assist the borough administration with the planning, promotion and potentially the design, construction and operation of an 800-1000 bed medium security correctional facility.

On December 15, 2000, the Kenai Peninsula Borough issued a Request For Qualifications (RFQ), requesting responses from qualified firms demonstrating their qualifications and capability to participate in the planning, promotion, design, construction, and operation of an 800-1000 bed medium security correctional facility. The RFQ was advertised in the Peninsula Clarion and the Anchorage Daily News.

As of January 24, 2001, the proposals due date, four proposals were received. A team consisting of five evaluators - three from the borough administration and two from the private sector - has been assembled to evaluate the proposals.

This resolution is submitted in blank form as the evaluations have not been completed at the time of the packet closure. It is the intent of the evaluation committee to conclude the evaluations and make a recommendation to the Mayor on February 13, 2001. Complete information will be provided before the assembly meeting at which this resolution is scheduled to be considered.
