AWARD OF A CONTRACT FOR DESIGN SERVICES FOR NORTH PENINSULA RECREATION SERVICE AREA HANDBALL COURT ADDITION AND REMODEL

The Finance Department has solicited and opened proposals for this North Peninsula Service Area capital design project on December 17, 1998. The Request for Proposal was advertised in the Peninsula Clarion, on November 27 and December 10, 1998; the Homer News, and the Seward Phoenix Log, on December 3 & 10, 1998, and in the Anchorage Daily News on November 28 and December 10, 1998.

Five professional firms requested copies of RFP's. Two firms responded to the Request for Proposals. Both proposals were found to be acceptable and were reviewed by the project's selection committee. The firm of Architects Alaska/Klauder & Co., Associated Architects, was graded with the higher score of 94 points.

RECOMMENDATION: The proposal of Architects Alaska/Klauder & Co., Associated Architects with an estimated fee of $65,635.90, ($63,125.70 for Design Services and $2,510.20 estimated for reimbursable expenses), was found acceptable and is recommended for award for this project.

The design work is to include all architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, civil, and geotechnical work required to complete the design documents for construction bidding of an addition to the recreation facilities. This work is to involve the addition of 2,600 sq. ft. of new construction to house two handball courts and a warm-up room. Additionally, approximately 160 sq. ft. of existing area will be remodeled for building interface. The new construction will require the addition of an air-handling unit; all other utilities will be provided through the existing plant.

Funding for the project is through the '98/'99 Budget, Capital Project Funds and funds transferred through appropriating Ordinance 98-56.
