RE: An Ordinance Rescinding an Unused Appropriation of $60,000 to the School Capital Improvement Fund and Returning the Funds to the Land Trust Fund
KPB Ordinance 2001-19-36 appropriated $60,000 in Timber Sale Receipts from the Land Trust Fund to the School Capital Improvement Fund. The money, proceeds from the sale of spruce bark beetle killed timber on borough land, was to be used to build school greenhouses for the expansion of a seedling growing and planting project. At this time, there is no longer a need for seedlings as all logged borough lands have been reseeded. Additionally, there are no large borough-owned tracts scheduled for the harvesting of beetle-killed trees due to the poor condition of the wood products market on the peninsula. As the funds appropriated were ultimately deemed insufficient to cover the entire costs of the greenhouse expansion, and as there is no longer a need to pursue the project, this ordinance will redirect the unused appropriation, returning the money to the Land Trust Fund.
