SUBJECT: Ordinance No. 2004-19-20: Accepting and appropriating a state grant for the 2006 Arctic Winter Games

The Kenai Peninsula Borough is supporting the efforts of the Kenai Peninsula Arctic Winter Games 2006 Host Society ("Host Society") to plan and conduct the 2006 Arctic Winter Games. Funding for the project was included in Senate Bill 283, which was passed by the Legislature and signed by the Governor in July 2004. The State Department of Community and Economic Development has notified the Borough of the availability of $100,000 for the Arctic Winter Games project. If the attached ordinance is enacted, the Borough will enter into an agreement with the Host Society to enable them to use the grant funds for the 2006 Arctic Winter Games.

Hearing on shortened time is requested to allow time to address any questions that may delay the funding process, so funds can be available for expected expenses in January 2005. The next scheduled assembly meeting after October 26, 2004, is three weeks later, on November 16, 2004.
