SUBJECT: Ordinance No. 2002-19-_____: Authorizing the Receipt of State Funds for Youth Facilities and Appropriating $52,000 to the North Peninsula Recreation Service Area

Funding for youth facilities within the North Peninsula Recreation Service Area was included in Senate Bill 2006, which has been passed by the Legislature and signed by the Governor. The State Department of Community and Economic Development has notified the Borough of the availability of $52,000 for this project. Specifically, the Service Area intends to use the funds to make improvements to the skateboard park at Nikiski High School by purchasing equipment and constructing benches and a rest area within the park. If remaining funds are available, additional equipment will be purchased for teen night activities.

The Service Area Board is scheduled to meet August 26, 2002. Acceptance of the grant and approval of the expenditure of grant funds will be on their meeting agenda. The results of their action will be incorporated into the ordinance on October 8^th, the date of public hearing.
