KENAI PENINSULA BOROUGH

ORDINANCE 2002-19-13

AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE RECEIPT OF STATE FUNDS FOR A COMMUNITY CENTER, AND APPROPRIATING $400,000 TO THE NORTH PENINSULA RECREATION SERVICE AREA FOR CONSTRUCTION OF A COMMUNITY CENTER

WHEREAS, the North Peninsula Recreation Service Area ("Service Area") identified as its number one priority for capital improvements the development and construction of a community center and included their request for funding in the Borough's 2002 legislative priorities; and

WHEREAS, Senate Bill 2006, which included funding for the Service Area's project, was passed by the State Legislature and signed by the Governor; and

WHEREAS, notice has been received from the Alaska Department of Community and Economic Development that a legislative grant has been awarded to the Service Area in the amount of $400,000 for a community center; and

WHEREAS, the service area is currently authorized to provide for recreation services and programs within the service area and to construct, operate, and maintain such facilities; and

WHEREAS, at its regular meeting on August 26, 2002, the Service Area Board of Directors recommended acceptance of the grant;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KENAI PENINSULA BOROUGH:

SECTION 1. That the mayor is authorized to accept the grant funds from the Department of Community and Economic Development on behalf of the North Peninsula Recreation Service Area and is authorized to execute all documents deemed necessary to accept the grant.

SECTION 2. That funds in the amount of $400,000 are appropriated to account No. 459.61110.03213.49311 for a community center.

SECTION 3. That due to the length and nature of this project, the appropriations established through this ordinance shall not lapse at the end of any particular fiscal year.

SECTION 4. This ordinance shall become effective immediately upon enactment.
