SUBJECT: Ordinance 2002-19-05 Authorizing the Receipt of a Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant from the Alaska Department Of Natural Resources and Appropriating $5,000 to the Kachemak Emergency Service Area

Kachemak Emergency Service Area ("KES") submitted an application for a grant under the 2002 Volunteer Fire Assistance ("VFA") grant program. The Alaska Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry, administers these federal funds provided under Public Law 95-313. Kachemak Emergency Service Area was recently notified that its application was accepted and a grant awarded to it in the amount of $5,000.

The grant program requires that KES match the grant funds on a one-to-one basis. KES has funds available in its FY03 budget to meet the match requirement. Grant funds will be combined with KES funds to purchase $10,000 worth of fire response equipment. The KES Board will meet on June 27, 2002. Acceptance of the grant and approval of the expenditure of both the grant and matching funds will be on their meeting agenda.
