MEMORANDUM

TO: Tim Navarre, Assembly President

Members, Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly

FROM: Dale Bagley, Borough Mayor

DATE: January 24, 2002

SUBJECT: Street name review process

Pursuant to KPB 14.10 the borough planning commission has the authority to name streets by resolution. Residents of the borough have a great interest in the names of the streets they frequently use and much knowledge regarding unofficial common or historical lands that should be considered when determining a street name. Sometimes residents don't all agree with the name given by the planning commission. The attached ordinance would allow the assembly to review the street name chosen upon request of a citizen who gave testimony at the planning commission level. A public hearing would be held and the assembly would apply the standards in KPB 14.10 and draw their own conclusion regarding the street name.

An expedited public hearing is requested because there is a disputed street name pending.
