Subject: 2002 Regional Salmon Marketing Mini-Grant

Dear Mr. Brown:

Congratulations! The Alaska Department of Community & Economic Development and the Kodiak Fisheries Industrial Technology Center (FITC) are pleased to inform you that Kenai Peninsula Borough has been awarded $ 120,000 under the 2002 Regional Salmon Marketing Mini-Grant. After reviewing seventeen grants requesting in excess of $2 million, the review committee narrowed their decision to five applicants.

Your organization received less than requested in the original grant. Would you please revise your grant to remove the items under the Quality category for Surefish Quality Inspections of $18,500, and Surefish Travel & Expenses $10,680. Please also remove $820 from Miscellaneous under the Expenses category. Through the review process, it was noted that considerable funds from the USDA, in part that fund this regional marketing money, through work on the Kenai Peninsula sponsored by the Alaska Manufacturers Association is already earmarked to the quality program efforts. The review committee fully supports third party inspections as a means to implement a quality control program, but is reticent to put additional dollars for this service.

If for some reason you do not believe the project will be possible with the available funding, please contact our office immediately.

Given the University must have all revised applications before it can begin releasing money, please expedite this revision request. Once the University has reviewed the grant process and received clearance from the US Department of Agriculture, grant funds may be disbursed. You may fax or e-mail your changes to (907) 465-5085 or [email protected].

Sincerely,
