MEMORANDUM
TO: Timothy Navarre, Assembly President
Members, Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly
FROM: William Popp, Assembly Member
DATE: July 9, 2001
SUBJECT: Ordinance 2001-21, prison steering committee
The following amendment will cause the prison steering committee to begin meeting no sooner than October 15, 2001, unless otherwise approved by assembly motion. This would provide time for the election to be certified prior to the first committee meeting, and give the assembly flexibility to schedule an earlier meeting should it so decide.
Amend section 2 as follows:
SECTION 2. Committee members shall serve for terms of ____ years, with the chair selected annually by the borough mayor. Terms of the first committee members shall be structured to allow for staggered terms. The committee shall utilize Roberts Rules of Order, except to the extent a majority of the committee approves alternate procedures. Subject to the outcome of the election regarding the prison, the committee shall meet regularly, beginning no sooner than October 15, 2001, or earlier upon approval by motion of the assembly, to receive and disseminate information from the borough project manager, contractors, the general public and other interested parties concerning the prison project. The borough prison project manager shall provide staff support to the committee.
