SUBJECT: Ordinance Authorizing the Receipt of a Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant from the Alaska Department of Natural Resources and Appropriating $5,000 to the Anchor Point Fire and Emergency Medical Service Area

The Anchor Point Volunteer Fire Department submitted an application for a grant under the 2001 Volunteer Fire Assistance ("VFA") grant program. The Alaska Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry, administers these federal funds provided under Public Law 95-313. Anchor Point Volunteer Fire Department was notified that their application was accepted and a grant awarded to them in the amount of $5,000. Anchor Point Volunteer Fire Department intends to pass the funds to the Anchor Point Fire and Emergency Medical Service Area

Terms of the grant agreement state that, "Purchases will be, or will have been, made between January 1, 2001 and December 31, 2001. �." In addition, the grant program requires that the Service Area match the grant funds on a one-to-one basis. The Service Area has expended funds from its FY01 budget to meet the match requirement. The purpose of the grant is to purchase fire response equipment. The Service Area Board is scheduled to meet on December 17^th to consider acceptance of the grant.
